Finally UK Govt and ECB have given a go-ahead to commence recreational cricket. Please see the attached documents with ECB guidelines for safe cricket. The committee emphasizes that all SESCL clubs should adhere to these ECB guidelines.
On the basis of the guidelines, SESCL committee has decided to kick start cricket within the SESCL.
Firstly, the regular SESCL League Season 2020 has been cancelled. There will not be any promotion or relegation for Season 2020 and the Divisions for 2021 will be based on the results at the end of Season 2019. Inshallah April/May 2021 will see the start of the regular SESCL games.
Having said that, please don’t be disheartened. SESCL committee has decided to hold a SESCL Championship Cup for the remainder of the 2020 Season. This cup will be played on basis of 2 rounds. The first round will be a mini round robin local league, trying to accommodate teams closer to your towns, ensuring clubs don’t have to travel a lot for away games. The second round will be knockout between the winners of each local league with Semi Finals and Finals held by the SESCL at the end of Round 1.
There will be 2 Cups within the SESCL Championship. The 1st cup will be held among the teams from Premier, Div 1 and Div 2. The 2nd Cup will be held among the teams from Div 3, Div 4 and Div 5. The target date for Round 1 are 26th July to 6th September followed by Knockout on 13th and 20thSeptember.
The SESCL Championship Cup will be totally optional. Only SESCL registered clubs can enter, but it is not compulsory for clubs to participate. Participation or not, will have no impact on the team’s position for the start of Season 2021. The tournament will be 40 Overs a side. A pre-season meeting will be held on Sunday 19th July 2020.
If you are interested in entering your club for SESCL Championship Cup, please email me on firstname.lastname@example.org by end of day on 12th July 2020, with the Name of your team, your position in the club and the ground you will play on (if you share a ground with other team). We will try and publish the draw by middle of next week, giving teams approx. 10 days for preparing and booking grounds for your home games. In case you have issues regarding procuring the ground please feel to contact me for the same. The committee will try and help you find a ground.
There will be an entry fee for the tournament. This will include the cricket balls (6 to 8 depending on the format and teams entered) and insurance for the league. As these are really tough times for club the Committee has decide to keep the entry at £50 per club. The rest of the cost will be taken care by the league. There will a prize ceremony at the end of the finals with trophies and medals to winners and runner up.
Please feel free to contact me for any questions.
Hope we can hold a competitive tournament and request your help and corporation towards the same.
